For me, photography is another way of expressing my passion for creating things, whether it is building furniture from reclaimed wood, restoring and building performance cars, or waiting to get that perfect shot, I must create something. I specifically focus on automotive photography because at heart, I am a car-guy and photographing vehicles of any kind gives me the opportunity to express my love for them in one more way. Vintage industrial and female portraiture are other areas of interest of mine because old buildings have seen and lived through all of the same moments as its occupants, and the female form is one of the most beautiful works of art on Earth.

My process involves needing to do as little post-processing as possible. I pay attention to the framing and lighting of an image and how it appears in my viewfinder, always trying to get what I need straight away. I loved “Dutching” the camera in many of my shots. I enjoy the abnormality of the framing and watching viewer’s eyes struggle on where to start looking at the image.  In the little processing that I still do, I am drawn to strong clarity, and bold contrast. Although film is not a very common medium to shoot in, I still use my Nikon FM2 when I can. The challenge of trying to achieve on film what is second nature in the digital realm is addicting.

Every image I capture is a new experience and I am constantly learning every time I mash the shutter. Though I am published in two very major automotive editorials (Hotrod Magazine and Car Craft Magazine), the desire to continue my education formally is strong, and I will never stop learning. Other than fellow students by far my biggest inspiration is photographer Larry Chen because we both share a passion for cars, and 35mm black and white film photography.
